The Pennsylvania State University’s Pattee Library was reimagined as a modern learning environment where lighting encourages collaboration while honoring the building’s historic character.
The design introduces custom botanical-inspired chandeliers, integrated architectural lighting, and illuminated living walls that restore a connection to nature after the enclosure of an existing courtyard. Carefully layered lighting supports everything from quiet study to active collaboration, while energy-efficient LED systems and intelligent controls enhance sustainability without compromising design intent.
Working alongside architects, interior designers, and horticultural specialists, the lighting team created an environment that inspires curiosity, interaction, and discovery. The result is an award-winning academic space where lighting becomes an integral part of the architecture and the student experience.
